Anglesey Mon

Published 13/08/2025

The announcement of Anglesey Môn Distillery came virtually out of nowhere, somewhat undercutting the announcement of the (relatiovely) nearby Aber Falls distillery. We’ll have to wait until 2020 to try the first Whiskies from Aber Falls but Anglesey Môn already have the first ready to go. It comes, at least for our latitudes, virtually out of nowhere and runs the Aber Falls Distillery from the rank, at least as regards the launch of the first whiskey from North Wales for 118 years: The Anglesey Môn Distillery of the owner Dafydd Thomas wants in the summer first whiskey on the market - at Aber Falls that will take until 2020.

Annandale

Published 13/08/2025

The ‘not a Lowland distillery’. Although situated in Annan the distilleries style is anything but traditional for the region, the site uses double over triple distillation, and the two standard expressions, “Man O’Words” & “Man O’Swords” are more reminiscent of the Speyside and peated Highland styles respectively than Lowland. One of several ‘lost’ Lowland distilleries to resume production in recent years. Annandale was originally established in 1836, built by George Donald, a former excise man from Elgin who ran the distillery until 1883 when it passed to John Gardener, the son of a Liverpool mayor.

Arbikie

Published 13/08/2025

Arbikie is a small experimental farm distillery established in 2015. The first new make spirit came off the still in September 2015 and isn’t expected to be bottled until aged 14. There are plans to begin onsite maltings creating a hyperlocal ‘farm to glass’ distillery. The distilleries water is drawn from a borehole, the distillery has four stainless steel washbacks, two stream heated pot stills both fitten with optional use purifiers.
