Since 1994 the single malt whiskies of the Knockdhu distillery have been released as AnCnoc to differentiate from those released from the Knockando Distillery. Auchroisk

Published 15/08/2025

Auchroisk was only built in the 1970s. For many years, the whisky was also difficult to obtain. The Auchroisk is an absolute insider dram as sadly most of their production continues to go into blended whiskies. Auchroisk Whisky The Auchroisk Whisk ydistillery is located between Rothes and Dufftown on a hill at the Burn of Mulben, which flows into the River Spey. It is unclear how to pronounce Auchroisk now. The management of the distillery pronounces the name “Och reusk”, while locals pronounce the Gaelic name like “Ach Rask” - but however you pronounce it, Auchroisk means “ford on the red river”.

Aultmore

Published 15/08/2025

The Aultmore Distillery on the edge of the Speyside resort of Keith produces quietly and secretly a heroine floral single malt whisky. In addition to a few standard bottlings of different ages, there are always Aultmores to be discovered by independent bottlers. Aultmore Whisky Without fame or fanfare Aultmore is distilled north of the small Speyside village Keith as the Aultmore Single Malt. Keith is mainly known as the seat of the Strathisla Distillery, but some more inconspicuous distilleries tumble there.

Balblair

Published 15/08/2025

Balblair is one of the northernmost single malt distilleries in Scotland and a classic Highland whisky. With its full body, its own fruitiness and its clear spice, Balblair has developed a loyal fan base. The Balblair 12 years is the most representative offering, showcasing the light, fruity side of the distillery. If you’re more a fan of the sherry cask influence then opt for the Balblair 15 years. Balblair Whisky The Balblair distillery has been producing whisky in the northern Highlands since 1790.

Ballindalloch

Published 15/08/2025

Ballindalloch Whisky Ballindalloch Distillery was Scotland’s first single estate distillery. It stands on the estate of the Ballindalloch Castle of the Macpherson-Grant family in the heart of the Speyside. It was built in 2014 and proudly and rightly calls itself a “hands on” distillery. The history of the family, which the 23rd generation calls the estate their home, can be traced back to 1546! The distillery does not have a public visitor center, but tours and even all-day whisky internships can be booked with advance notice.
